I’m getting addicted to this. Couldn’t help myself. Today I made Challah for some special family members. So easy! I’ll post the recipe below.
Challah Bread
Ingredients
- 4 1/4 cups of bread flour,
- 1/3 cup of sugar,
- 2 teaspoons salt,
- 1 Tablespoon yeast,
- 1 1/3 cups warm water
- 1/3 cup oil
Directions
- Place all dry ingredients into a bowl.
- Add all liquid ingredients.
- Mix the ingredients,
- Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead for a few minutes; the dough shouldn’t be sticky
- Put the dough back in the bowl and cover with plastic wrap.
- Set aside to rise until the dough doubles in bulk, 45 minutes to an hour.
- Punch down, and knead gently 3-5 times on a floured board
- Divide the dough in three pieces; role into strands, about 10” long
- Braid the dough on a greased cookie sheet
- Cover the loaf/loves lightly with plastic and let rise another 30 minutes.
- In a small bowl, beat an egg with fork;
- Brush with beaten egg over the risen dough
- Optional: Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds
- Bake at 350 degrees F., until golden brown, about 25 minutes depending on the size of your loaf. #yeastdough #bread
Baker’s Notes:
- This recipe will make one very large I prefer to break it into 2 medium loaves or 4 small loaves.
- I often add an egg along with the wet ingredients…this will require additional ½ cup-3/4 cup of flour.

I’ve never had Challah bread, but it looks yummy!! I’m saving it to try at some point!
